The 2011 Spring Fishing Season Is Just About Here

Spring 2011 is here.

Well after a very long hard winter I think we are finally getting spring like conditions and there is water moving everywhere.

Our Spring trip to Chilliwack for sturgeon is now full so we are all eagerly waiting for that. The following weekend the majoritry of water bodies open for fishing here in the province.

We have been starting to get calls about fishing this season and bookings have also started. If there are any dates that you had in mind or any questions you need answered please feel free to email or call me at the numbers provided on the side bar.

I wish you all a great fishing season and remember to keep your hook in the water.

Get Hooked Now Certified

We are pleased to announce that Get Hooked Fishing Adventures owner Keith Rae is now Alberta’s first and only Certified Freshwater Angling Guide.

Having completed all the required elements to meet the standards set out by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource  Council Keith now becomes Alberta’s first and only certified guide.

Having lobbied the Alberta Government for several years now to have a guide license put into place to give the guiding industry some form of credibility the government refused to adopt any such program. The Freshwater Angling Guide program is a nationally recognised program.

Keith wanted to insure his past as well as future clients had the peace of mind knowing that Get Hooked was a responsible and safe company to deal with. Get Hooked’s other guides will soon be taking the course to make sure they meet all the standards for their certification as well.

We only hope that other guiding operations within the province follow suit in the future.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone.

Well 2010 is here and time to make your fishing plans for the up coming season.

We will be doing our spring trip out to the Fraser river in early May for Sturgeon so if you are interested please feel free to contact us to secure a spot. If you have never caught one of these incredible fish then make sure you give it a try. You will not forget the experience!!!!

Last season was one of our busiest and the way this season is shaping up that trend looks to continue for 2010. If you should have any dates in mind please feel free to contact us to book your trip.

Hope you all have a great 2010 and remember to keep your hooks in the water

Year of the “Big Pike”

Well this early shot of winter has put a hold on fishing till it warms up again so it gives me a chance to post this update.

We have been going hard on the water since the start of Sept. and the fishing has gone from slow to some great day’s of lots of walleye and some real nice pike. The walleye only keeps getting better and like this whole season late in starting but they are now moving into their winter holes and feeding heavy.

Several of our guests have had the thrill of hooking into big river pike this fall. Our group from Abalone Construction even landed not just one but 3 big pike in the same day. The largest being a 38 in and 17 in. around monster that we got to see take the hook in slow motion before it striped off line in rapid fashion.

Here are some other great fish from this fall so far.

Also we have posted portions of the Bob Izumi and Dave Mercer shows on YouTube so if you missed them you can go to the following links to veiw them.

Well that is all for now so lets all pray for some warmer weather.

Edmonton Oilers Get Hooked

Edmonton Oilers Zack Stortini and Kyle Brodziak  joined Get Hooked Fishing Adventures for a day of fishing fun. It was partially a part of a trip donated by Get Hooked to the Oilers gift basket program. It was the second highest fund raiser in the program.

Zack and Kyle were joined by Paul Onderwood and his family who bought the basket at an Oilers game for a day on the water with the hockey players.

The day was a bit cool out but heated up with the fishing action. Both Zack and Kyle were like little kids in a candy store when the fish started hitting. Zack was five walleye for five casts a few times and the smile on his face went from ear to ear. Kyle was at the head of his boat and consistently hitting fish. The Oilers even sent out a camera man to shoot some of the action and do a few interviews. Thanks to all the fish that cooperated while the filming was going on.

In all the day went well and everyone had a full day of catching fish and enjoyed their gourmet lunch provided by Get Hooked.  I am sure that we will see more Oilers coming out to enjoy some great fishing action.

Keep on fishing.

Fishing Season Is In Full Swing

The 2009 fishing season is here and we are doing real well on all of our trips.

It is rare but the river has not flooded this year so far and may not, cross my fingers. Fishing has been good on both the river with walleye, goldeye and pike action being good to great and some nice fish being caught. The lake was slow due to the late spring but the walleye action has really picked up with a good average size being caught.

We have doubled our usual June bookings this year and continue to be booking out front right into Oct. of 2009. I would recommend that if you have a date in mind that you contact us sooner then later.

Have a great summer everyone.

Get Hooked On A Great River Adventure

Well we are back from our first annual “Get Hooked On A Great River Adventure” in B.C.

Everyone had a real good time and caught sturgeon with the exception of one person. The water temperture was only 39 degrees so slowed the fishing way down. Our first day was a tough fish but we had a much better second day with all boats catching fish. The water actually warmed up to 45 degrees and seemed to get the fish biting better. We had lots of bites that is for sure and kept everyone on their toes.  We had a couple of lovely ladies also join us and they both caught their first sturgeon.

I would like to say thanks to everyone that went out with us and also to Dean and his team for making the trip even more memorable.

Spring is almost here and there are folks planning their trips for this summer. To ensure that you get the dates you want please contact me to sew up your dates.

Below are some photo’s from our trip. My special gal’s first sturgeon, John’s fish, Lee’s first, Eric’s catch and finally Andy with his pool winning fish. I hope to post some more later.

April B.C. Sturgeon Trip Coming Up Fast

Well I have The Fishin’ Hole trade show done for another year now and it was another great show. I got to talk with a lot of great folks over the four day’s. I had many wonderful comments from people about the Bob Izumi,  Dave Mercer and Mariko Izumi  shows that have aired this year.

Now it is time to get ready for our trip at the end of April for some exlosive sturgeon fishing action. My son and I tested the waters last spring and were rewarded with 36 sturgeon over the two days we were out there. Our arms felt it on the flight back home but the smiles on our faces told the whole story.

This year we have partnered with my good friend Dean Werk of Great River Fishing Adventures to host a group of fishermen from Alberta for two days of great sturgeon action. We have nine people heading out with us and we still have a few spots left if you want to join us. Everyone should experience the great white ghosts at least once in a lifetime. Please feel to contact me if you want more details on the trip.

Back From Costa Rica

Well I made it back from a month in the sun safe and sound. After yesterday’s snow storm maybe I returned to soon.

I did do a few fishing trips down there with mixed success. My buddy Micheal produced for me on both trips with him. I caught a great Rooster Fish  and a very nice Amber Jack. The rooster actual came right out of the water which is rare. Playa Hermossa was better fishing then Samara but Samara is a really good time. The winds this year have made the water much cooler so has slowed down fishing a bit.

Now I look forward to our first ever B.C. sturgeon group trip and then getting our boats in the water here for another great season.

Don’t forget the Fishin’ Hole’s Outdoor Show is this weekend from Thursday till Sunday at the Mayfield Inn conference center and it is FREE.

Remember to keep your hook in the water!!!!!!!
